PUC-MEPhIST-0 Tokamak Experiments: July 2025

PUC students participated in our first remote experiments collaborating with Moscow’s National Research Nuclear University.

The spherical tokamak MEPhIST-0 is designed to train specialists and conduct research in the field of nuclear fusion.

During july 2025, we conducted a 1st ever session of remote experiments in collaboration with the MEPhIST-0 tokamak of the National Research Nuclear University of the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI), all the way from Santiago at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

MEPhI is home to six Nobel laureates, including Pavel Cherenkov, and was a pivotal institution in the development of the Russian nuclear energy program. Its first Academic Council featured Lev Artsimovich, the visionary behind the tokamak concept.

When?
Thursday-Friday 10-11 July, 2025

Where?
Sala de reuniones Física Experimental

The goal of the experiments was to estimate the plasma current with the Rogowski coils, find optimized pressure operation and explore the possibility of studying impurity and wall conditioning using the optical spectrometer.
