The spherical tokamak MEPhIST-0 is designed to train specialists and conduct research in the field of nuclear fusion.
During our 2025 autumn term, we will conduct a 1st session of remote experiments in collaboration with the MEPhIST-0 tokamak of the National Research Nuclear University of the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI), all the way from Santiago at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
MEPhI is home to six Nobel laureates, including Pavel Cherenkov, and was a pivotal institution in the development of the Russian nuclear energy program. Its first Academic Council featured Lev Artsimovich, the visionary behind the tokamak concept.
When?
Thursday-Friday, May, 2025
Where?
To be determined @Facultad de Física
The goals of the experiments will be to calculate the plasma current with the Rogowski coils, find optimized pressure operation and explore the possibility of studying impurity and wall conditioning using the optical spectrometer.
